In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Congresswoman Maxine Waters condemned Trump’s response to the recent situation and stated that he should leave the talk about the coronavirus outbreak to health professionals in his administration.
“It’s been said over and over again that you cannot trust this president,” Waters told CNN Senior Congressional Correspondent Manu Raju last week. “Not only is he a lair, he does not believe in anything scientific.”
President Trump took to Twitter and dismissed fears that the situation has gotten out of control.
“Our CoronaVirus Team has been doing a great job,” Trump tweeted this week. “Even Democrat governors have been VERY complimentary!”
Waters, as a staunch critic of the president, suggested that Trump is a “liar,” who should “shut his mouth” on the coronavirus outbreak.
“The president of the United States cannot be relied upon,” she said. “Someone said he needs to be quiet, he needs to shut his mouth. And he should do that and allow CDC, NIH, and others to deal with this issue and help us through it.”
Appearing on MSNBC, the California Democrat noted that the United States was unprepared for the coronavirus because the average person lacks trust in President Trump.
“Well, you know, one of the problems that we have is there’s not a lot of trust from the average American in the president of the United States,” Waters said.
“Unfortunately, he has been documented to have lied so many times, to distort, to change the story, and so, you know, one of the things we look for in a leader and particularly the president of the United States is the kind of leadership where people can trust you because of the way you have conducted yourself as you have led the presidency, been in the presidency.”
